Sacral Chakra

The second chakra is also called the sacral chakra and corresponds to the element of water. It is located in the abdomen about a hand's width below the navel and is the center of our emotional, sensual, creative and sexual well-being. It is symbolized by an orange circle with a crescent moon surrounded by 6 lotus leaves.

 

Just as water sometimes brings storms and waves, the emotions we encounter in life are not always calm. Often, when restless feelings arise, people become anxious and block the unpleasant feelings. However, feelings themselves are neither good nor bad, but serve only to sensitize our consciousness to something that affects us. It is not feelings that bring problems into our lives, but their suppression and judgement.

Manifestations

 

Balanced

A healthy sacral chakra manifests itself in the joy of life - full of zeal, enthusiasm and passion for life. This vitality affects both the physical body and our emotional feelings. When strong, it allows us to celebrate life and the good things it has to offer on the earthly level, such as social contacts, laughter, enjoyment and adventure.

A healthy second chakra accepts all our positive and negative emotions and does not hold or suppress them. This does not mean that we have to react to our feelings; we just have to feel our feelings. If we only want to feel the positive and avoid the difficult or dark feelings, our learning opportunities would be halved. Our dark or difficult feelings are just as important as our lighter, warmer feelings when it comes to understanding who we are and how to create our lives. Feelings are simply a feedback system for our decisions-making and we need them all to learn and develop.

Too strong

An overemphasized  sacral chakra occurs only rarely, since this chakra is rarely stronger developed than the other chakras by our society. An overly pronounced sacral chakra usually manifests itself in overemphasized sexuality.

Too weak

When the sacral chakra is blocked or unbalanced, the love of life is usually missing. You avoid, control or ignore your feelings and live in your head instead of being guided by yoru feelings. Often one forbids oneself something or restricts oneself, but this kind of self-control only leads to more frustration and lack.

The lack of joie de vivre is often compensated in other ways, which can lead to an increased tentendcy towards addictions (alcohol, drugs, competitive sports). 

On a physical level, a blocked second chakra can manifest itself in anorexia, bulimia, addiction, sexual dysfunction and emotional depression. All these manifestations have in common that they try to control the sensual nature in one form or another. If we suppress, reject or ignore our feelings over a longer period of time, we enter a state of dysfunction, blocking our entire emotional well-being.

Problems with the kidneys, urinary tract and bladder can also be a sign of a blocked sacral chakra, as the sacral chakra is important for the excretion of fluids.​

Balance the sacral chakra

The following tips stimulate the sacral chakra and ensure a better flow of energy:

  • All creative actions, e.g. pursue a hobby

  • Celebrate the beauty in life: art, flowers, good food, etc.

  • Dancing

  • Play! For example, team sports, playing with children, game evenings

  • Contacts with water, swimming, bathing, drinking lots of water

  • Doing something outside one's comfort zone
